Answer Me This: My Urban Legends

Answer Me This. We are hoping this will help our friends get to know us a just a tad bit better.

For our Answer Me This we are discussing Urban Legends. Ash and I are fans of the scary... stories, books, movies, music. Anything scary. Not sure why we like to be scared, but we do. I am sure as many others, we both grew up with urban legends. The ones you talk about at campouts, sleepovers, parties and tons of other get togethers with friends. So what urban legends did we grow up on, which ones really scared us, which ones stuck with us into our adulthood.... well here are our answers.

Ash-
Urban legends have ALWAYS scared me. Of course I am a bit of a scaredy cat... Anyway...
I feel like urban legends are there for a reason. At least some of them. Do I think if you drink coke after eating pop rocks your stomach will explode? No. Do I think if you flash your lights at someone they could run you off the road? Yes. Do I think dolls come to life and kill people? ....Possibly. Anyway! Here are some of the ones that scared me the most when I was a kiddo.

(I found the shortest of these legends so I could post on here, but there are many versions of all of these)

1. Killer Dolls

It was Jane’s birthday this coming Saturday so her parents brought her into town to find something that would interest her. She saw a doll in a shop that she really liked and her parents thought the doll was alright, but suggested she look for another toy because this one seemed to be broken. The doll only had 9 fingers. Jane insisted that she wanted it, so her parents bought it for her. Later that night when she went to bed, she was woken up a by a sound.

“I am Marian and I am at the bottom of the stairs”
“I am Marian and I am half way up the stairs”
“I am Marian and I am at the top of the stairs”
“I am Marian and I am outside your bedroom”
“I am Marian and I am right here!!”

The next morning her parents found her daughter in the bed mutilated, and the doll right next her. They were astounded to see that the doll now only had 8 fingers.

This was one of the first urban legends I ever heard. I was like 10 and it seriously made me scared of dolls. I hate them.

2. Humans Can Lick Too

Once there was a nice old lady who had a lovely little dog. One day, the old lady heard on the radio that a crazy murderer had escaped from jail and that everyone should lock all their doors and windows to keep herself safe. So she locked every door and window in the house except one tiny one to let some air in. She thought that a murderer would never be able to get in through that one small window.

So that night she went to bed as usual. She knew everything was OK because when she put down her hand, he dog licked it. But later in the night, she heard a drip, drip, drip. She put her hand down and the dog licked it. Figuring everything was OK, she went downstairs to check out the tap. But the tap wasn't dripping. So she went to bed again. And everything was OK.

She woke up again later in the night, though, so she thought the dripping sound must be coming from the shower. She went into the bathroom, and there was her dog, dead, hanging in the shower, dripping with blood, all its intestines hanging out.

Written on the mirror were the words: "Humans can lick, too!" And behind her in the mirror, she saw the murderer.

Yeah, I used to get comforted by my cat licking me at night. Luckily their tongues feel different, needless to say this still freaked me out.

3. Aren't You Glad You Didn't Turn on the Lights?

Two college roommates were complete opposites, one liked to study while the other liked to party. In preparation for their upcoming midterms, the studious roommate (Jane) planned a Friday night of studying while the partier (Mary) decided to go to a frat party.

The two were friends, regardless of their differences, and while Mary got ready for the party, she tried to get Jane to go. Jane insisted on studying and Mary set out for the party. Jane agreed to leave the door unlocked, so that Mary wouldn’t have to bring her keys.

While Mary was at the party, she met up with another group of friends and they convinced Mary to stay at their place for the night. Mary agreed but had to stop back at her room to get her keys. It was about 2 a.m. when Mary got back. She snuck in and grabbed her keys, leaving the lights off, not wanting to wake her roommate.

The next morning Mary walked home, intent to ask Jane for some study help. When she reached her room and opened the door she saw Jane murdered at her desk! Written on the wall in Jane’s blood was "Aren’t you glad you didn’t turn on the light?"

Another one I heard when I was pretty young. Still freaks me out, usually when I come into a room and it's dark I'll call out to whoever I think is in the room. Or I'll turn on the light outside the room to see better.

4. Bloody Mary
There was once a beautiful woman by the name of Mary Worth. One day, she had a horrible accident which caused her face to look deformed. Her face was so ugly, she didn’t view her own horrible reflection for many years. Eventually, Mary couldn’t take it any more. She found a mirror and finally saw her mangled face. Mary was so horrified, she was willing to do anything to get her old reflection back. She climbed in the mirror and went in search of her old reflection. She was so eager to get regain what she had lost, that if you dare distract her from her search she will notice you. Call her name while gazing into a mirror in a dark room 3 times and she will deviate from her quest to find you. Mary will appear in your looking glass and in her wrath she will scratch your face until you look just as deformed as she does.

Everyone knows bloody Mary. It still freaks me out. I refuse to play bloody Mary. More on this in another post.

Jenn-
The urban legends I grew up with... well this was something that me and a couple of my best friends would talk  about every Friday night sleepover for years. So I have quite a few of them.

1. The murder in the backseat..... you know girls stops at a gas station on way home from college. On the road she has a truck following her that keeps flashing his high beams on her. She pulls into another gas station to report the creep and the creep isn't a creep... there was an actual creep with a knife in the back seat and the truck saved her life by lighting him up with his headlights.

My thoughts. This one still has me looking in my backseat everytime I get in my car but the reality... if some psycho in your back seat wants to stab you, the lights from the car behind not going to stop him. Obviously someone already knows his plan so I think he would just do it. I mean he is a psycho.... but that is just my two cents and it didn't keep this one from scarring me for life.

Image result for killer in backseat gif

2. Hookman... The one where some teens were making out at you know makeout point when they hear a scraping on the roof of the car.... they take off scared. They survive but when they get home there is a hook in the car.

My thoughts... this one never really scared me much. they escaped... it just taught me to always leave when I hear scary sounds.

Image result for hook hand gif

3. Chain Letter- I read  a book in school with this one, but Christoper Pike...  A person would receive a chain letter and if they didn't follow the instructions and send the letters off, they would be killed.

My thoughts: okay as a teenager this one really got me. I was afraid of everything chain letter related and feared for my life everytime I recieved something just a bit like a chain letter. Stupid I know, but it realy had me as a teen. As an adult...nah just toss those things in the trash.

Image result for scary gif

4. Cats steal your breath in your sleep.... The one where if you have a cat and you feel something heavy on your chest at night... its the cat stealing your breath while you sleep.

My thoughts. This one only freaked me out at other people's houses. I mean I had cats my entire life and they never stole my breath... but if i had a friend that had a cat.... I couldn't sleep at their house.

Image result for cat stealing breath gif

5. Car driving with no headlights on at night... The one where you see a car at night and they have their lights off.So you flash your lights at them and it's a gang initiation and so they shoot you....

My thoughts:Okay so this one still freaks me out, only because how do I know if it's true. I have never seen another car at night with no headlights... although I did one time pull out of a parking lot without mine. So I know it can happen. If I see a car with no headlights at night... will I flash my headlights at them... I don't know the answer to that.

Image result for scared gif

Those are the ones I remember and made the most impact on my life as a kid and as an adult. I mean I guess if I heard some today.. I might get freaked out a bit... The movie Urban Legends scared the crap out of me the first time I watched it. For the longest time I was constantly watching my back.

What urban legends do you remember, did you grow up with, still scare you today?

Answer Me This: Any New Year's Resolutions?

Answer Me This. We are hoping this will help our friends get to know us a just a tad bit better.

This Answer Me This is all about New Years resolutions. I know we're a bit late, but better late than never right?

Image result for new years resolution gif

Ash-

I don't know that I have any New Years resolutions. I don't really believe in them to be honest. Wait until the New Year to be a better you? That's like saying "I'll start the diet tomorrow" Let's do it now.

Now with everything that has gone on in the past year, and even the past month. I guess I do have some things I want to change. Especially after losing Greyson.

1. Be healthier. Not just lose weight, but be healthy in general. Even though I know losing him wasn't my fault, I can't help but feel that maybe if I had been healthier, I wouldn't have lost him. Or maybe the pregnancy would've been easier.

2. Be a better person. I know this is so super cliche, but it's not even just being a better person. It's being a better mom, daughter, wife, sister, friend. I went through the worst thing I could, and I want to be there for others who are hurting for any reason. I want to be there for my husband and for my son.

3. Not let the little things get to me. A dog barking? A slow driver? Someone being stupid online? These things don't matter. It's life, it's whatever. At least we are still alive and able to have to deal with these things, ya know?

Anyway, those are my biggest things. I guess they're pretty normal things, but they mean so much more now.

Jenn-

I am not a person that usually does New Year's Resolutions... I fee they set you up to fail. But this year there are things I would like to work on.  It's been a very hard year and in that hardship I have learned many things. So many of these resolutions stem from that for my Mind Body and Soul

1. Be healthier... this goes for everything. I need to eat healthier, I need to take care of my self more. I need to move and get out of the house. I need to eat what is going to help my body not hurt my body. I need to focus on things that are good for not harmful to me.

2. Be more positive.... I am not a negative person per say. But I can obsess on things that really don't matter. I need to let go of the little things. See the positive and live the positive.

3. Learn to lose control.... I am a control freak. I have to control so I don't fear. I am a very fearful person. See where this is going. I need to learn that its okay when I can't control something or when I fear something it's okay just to let it be.

4. Trust God more. this goes with my control and my fear issues. I can't control it, protect it, change it, so I need to let it go and trust God will take care of it all for me, and trust in his resolution not the one I forsee should be.

5. Family.... more family time. I just need to be around my family. Yes... Ash and her family live here...so instead of taking that for granted I need to just enjoy it... let my expectations go an just enjoy my family.

6. Let the rest of fall where it needs to fall. The things that are important. ... My spiritual life, my healthy self, my family.... So if nothing else falls into place... let it fall where it will fall and be okay with that.

So there you have it. I just want to be a better person and a happier person.

Answer Me This: YUMMY!!!!!

Answer Me This. We are hoping this will help our friends get to know us a just a tad bit better.

There is another read-a-thon coming up at the end of July that we are going to participate in... SO EXCITED. Anyways this got me thinking of what kind of food I want to get then I started thinking about all the foods I like so here is the question this week. What foods make you go MMMM.... What makes you rumbly in the tumbly?

Ash:
I like food. A lot. If I could have one wish, it would be that I could eat whatever I want without getting fat.

Seriously.

Image result for i love food gif

My favorite food is tacos. I will drop anything for tacos about 90% of the time. Breakfast tacos are probably my number one. I love potato and cheese with extra cheese and some green salsa.

But I also LOVE steak tacos. And then there's burritos. Mmm mmm burritos. I also love nachos, and quesadillas. I love all things tex mex or mexican.

Image result for mexican food platter

For breakfast I obviously love breakfast tacos or breakfast burritos. But there's a place we used to go that had the best chilaquiles, which is tortilla chips, fried egg, cheese, sour cream, beans, avocado, and green enchilada sauce, I would break open the eggs and mix it all around. Good Lord I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Image result for chilaquiles

I also love egg benedicts. I get them on a biscuit and with extra hollandaise sauce. Kerby Lane is one of my favorite places to go, because they have fried green tomato benedicts, steak fajita benedicts, plus seasonal ones that changes. I usually don't like regular benedicts because I don't like ham or english muffins.

Other foods I really really love are Mac and Cheese, cheese stuffed ravioli, sub sandwiches, steak and potatoes, brisket, burgers that hubby grills (He's the best at grilling!).

I also love fruit. All kinds of fruit. Most fruit. I recently found out that I like grapefruit, which I've grown up my whole life hating. Other than that I don't like blackberries, or raspberries. I think those are the only fruits I can do without. A fruit salad is the best thing ever, especially during the summer.

Image result for fruit salad

I love soups a lot too, taco soup, broccoli and cheese soup, loaded potato soup, tomato soup...

Which makes me think of grilled cheeses, YUM.

Okay, I can keep going, seriously. I really love food. So I'll stop here... for now!

Jenn:

So this is a hard question for me. I like soo soo many foods. I like food, I love food, I love to eat like all the time. One of my favorite things to do... go out to eat with family and friends. SO this is a very hard question for me to answer in one post...but I will give this a try.

Image result for all the foods gif

So my favorite cuisine.... anything Asian... I think... I also love Greek food and Indian food. Chicken Marsala... oh yes please. I do love Thai. That is probably my ultimate favorite. So I kind went all over the place on that one.

My favorite cook at home thing to eat.... has to be anything on the grill and burgers are on the very top of the list... I do also love smoked too. Smoked brisket YES PLEASE!

Image result for grill master gif

I do love to eat any kind of salad... quinoa salad, fruit salad, pasta salad, potato salad, veggie salad... my favorite though I love love love chicken salad.... on sweet rolls. Oh yum. I really love any kind of sandwich. Really so simple but I love to eat all the sandwiches. I just love bread. So bread of any kind with chicken salad... that is the way to my heart.

So lets go to desert... ice cream will always be my number one go to. I love ice cream. Chocolate and coffee flavor together... my favorite.... also mint chocolate chip. I love it in a bowl or in a cone. I do also love cheesecake and Brownies and oh any kind of cookies. Okay so now I am just making myself hungry.

Image result for ice cream gif

I am also a big fruit and veggie person. Fruit more for a snack or desert and veggies more for sides. I love green beans, my favorite side dish, and you can dish them to me anyway... casserole, grilled, steamed, made with bacon. It's all good. For fruit. Berries... any kind by my favoritest of all the sweet sweet fruits..... Strawberries....

Speaking of strawberries... strangest thing for me to like, really the simplest of foods that I love to munch on at anytime.... toast. Yes, I said toast. SO simple but I always make sure when I go out to eat breakfast... whatever I get comes with toast. I love toast... with strawberry jelly... yum. I don't like eggs much but if you scramble them and put them on strawberry jellied toast...give it to me like a sandwich... I will chow it. Strawberry jellied toast makes everything better.

Image result for toast makes it better gif

One of my longest and strong food addictions though.. CEREAL!!! I am  like the cookie monster of cereal so I guess the Cereal Monster..... I could literally eat an entire box in one day. I eat it with milk or without milk. I eat any kind really... the healthy kind, the sugary kind, marshmallows, cinnamon, berries, nuts. I will go for it all. I can't have it in my house because I will eat it until I hurt. Its a killer for me really.

Image result for my cereal gif

So I think I covered all my favorite things to eat. I mean I could go on forever about food. It's one of my favorite past times. But I think this is really about all my just yummy yummy in the tummy foods.

What do you love eat?

Answer me this: Got Apps?

Answer Me This. We are hoping this will help our friends get to know us a just a tad bit better.

This answer me this we're going to talk about our favorite phone apps. The ones we use daily.

Ash:

I have a lot of apps I use daily. Mostly games. But I'll just pick a couple games. And talk about what other ones I use most.

Jenn:

I use very few apps. I have my favorites and I do use them daily but I am very boring on my phone.

Social media:

Ash:
For social media I use Facebook, Snapchat, Whisper, Instagram, sometimes twitter. I use Pinterest a lot too. For everything. And of course, I use Goodreads. I have Instagram but I don't use it as much.

Jenn:

Um, social media what is that. I mean the most social I get is Bloglovin' and Goodreads. Every now and then I will search for something on Pinterest... but really I don't social much.

Reading/music/Watching:

Ash:

I use Spotify almost daily, and I use youtube quite often.
For reading, I use audible, kindle and Scribd.

Jenn:

Now, this is where I shine. I use my Kindle App, Scribd, and Audible all the time. About 8 hours a day I am listening to audio and about 2 hours a day reading. I don't do much music but if I do I just go to youtube.

I do often watch shows on Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix. I don't use these daily,  but a couple of times a week. During the fall season, I almost use them daily for shows that my hubby doesn't watch. The only issue is that it takes time away from my audiobooks. I also watch videos on youtube which by the way, is a rabbit hole.

Around work, I have my headphones in my ears constantly.

Games and Hobbies:

Ash:

I like to edit my pictures for that, I use Instasize and Pictapgo.

For games, I like to play mahjong, coin dozer games, farm simulators, and I love games like Gardenscapes and Homescapes. But also I have solitaire games that I absolutely love.

Jenn:

I do play a lot of games. I can do this while I listen to my audiobooks. Which I do on lunch and breaks and sometimes at home when I am really into a book I can't put down. Run on sentence warning!

I have lots of game apps on my phone but I do have my favorites. Which I am ADD so that sometimes changes ... I always have a game I played every day though. Right now and for a while it's been Cookie Jam. I am over level 1000 and for me, that is a something... since I don't usually spend that much time on one particular game. I also like Candy Crush and Fruit Splash and Jelly Splash. I like solitaire games too. Recently with the help of Finn, I discovered Jurrasic World. That has me pretty addicted right now.

As for hobbies... that would be shopping... Amazon, Wayfair, and eBay. I wouldn't say I use eBay daily but enough to say I use it a lot. I do like Wayfair but I use the website sometimes instead of the app. Amazon I am on a lot but I just recently started using the app because Ash yelled at me for using the website on my phone.

Oh and I check my email religiously, so I guess I use my email app all the time.

Is your phone full of apps? Which apps are you addicted too? Let's discuss apps!

Answer Me This: Are You Scared?

Answer Me This. We are hoping this will help our friends get to know us a just a tad bit better.

What are you scared of? What keeps you up at night?

Jenn-
Ash and I share a few fears, such as losing everyone we love and being buried alive. But I have a few different ones as well.

Sharks.
Ever since I saw Jaws, I won't go into an ocean.
Image result for jaws gif

Germs.
I don't drink or eat after anyone, not even my husband. And germs, in general, freak me out.

Image result for germs gif

Cockroaches.
Demon creatures.

Image result for cockroach gif

Being trapped.
Being trapped anywhere, buried alive, stuck in an elevator, surrounded by people.
Image result for claustrophobic gif

Ash-
I have quite a few things I'm scared of. I am a huge scaredy cat and I worry about just about everything. Literally. If it's something bad and I learned about it, guess what? It's in my head.

Image result for american horror story are you scared gif

But really. I have a list of things I'm scared of.

My biggest fears are...

Losing the ones I love.
Of course, this is a huge fear. I think it's such a normal thing to be scared of. The thought of losing someone close to me is terrifying. Especially my son, Finn. It keeps me up at night thinking about all the ways I could possibly lose him. I have nightmares about it.

Clowns.
I mean seriously. Who likes clowns?! They are terrifying and deadly and killer icky clowns. Ugh.
I blame this one purely on the fact my babysitter let me watch IT when I was like 2. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

Image result for killer clown gif

Dolls.
Again, my babysitter let me watch Chuckie. I had great sitters didn't I? But also going to sleepovers as a kid and hearing all the urban legends about the dolls. Whole bunch of nope nope nope.

Image result for creepy doll gif

Being buried alive.
I'm not nearly as claustrophobic as Jenn is. But the thought of being buried alive is awful. It's making it hard to breathe just thinking about it.

Image result for buried alive gif

Asylums.
Asylums freak me out so bad. Like, it's not a fear of mine really. But the thought of spending time in one eeks me out bad. I would love to go with a crew of people and take pictures. But anything more than that I'll have to pass.

Image result for asylum gif

Eyeless eye sockets.
One time when I worked door to door this man answered the door and he had no eyeballs. Like his eyes were open and I could see in his sockets and. Ugh I'm gonna vomit. It was so bad. I even used to have nightmares about these kids I used to babysit, and I would walk in and they would all turn to me and have no eyeballs.

No gif for this one, I'm saving y'all from that image.

*gag*

So that's it for now. I have more, I'm sure. But at this point I'm thinking about eyeless sockets and I can't do it anymore.

What about y'all? What gives you the heebie-jeebies and keeps you awake at night?
