Goodreads Summary:

In the future, only one rule will matter:

Don’t. Ever. Peek.

Seventeen-year-old Ari Alexander just broke that rule and saw the last person she expected hovering above her bed — arrogant Jackson Locke, the most popular boy in her school. She expects instant execution or some kind of freak alien punishment, but instead, Jackson issues a challenge: help him, or everyone on Earth will die.

Ari knows she should report him, but everything about Jackson makes her question what she’s been taught about his kind. And against her instincts, she’s falling for him. But Ari isn’t just any girl, and Jackson wants more than her attention. She’s a military legacy who’s been trained by her father and exposed to war strategies and societal information no one can know — especially an alien spy, like Jackson. Giving Jackson the information he needs will betray her father and her country, but keeping silent will start a war

Review:

I love the cover of this book and the synopsis grabbed me right away. I was ready for some alien adventure and romance. I got this book. A very enjoyable read, I was intrigued from the very beginning and it quickly became a page turner.

Short and Sweet of It:

In the future, way future there are aliens that live among us. There was a treaty signed to live peacefully, the humans would provide them with nutrients by the “taking” and they would provide the humans with oxygen from new trees. Together they were able to live peacefully for years…until the day that the humans decided not to abide by the treaty any longer..So Jackson says. The alien that Ari was assigned to for the nightly taking, which is the alien sucking out nutrients from the human while they sleep. Creepy huh. One night Ari does not sleep, she peeks, she sees Jackson and learns that both world are in trouble and they have to work together to stop a war the humans cannot and will not win.

My Thoughts:

The book was a very quick read. It was a short book but everything seemed to be in there. The only issue I had with the writing was it confused me a bit at times. Especially in the beginning. Things started off right away, there wasn’t any real build up and there for there wasn’t much explanation. It took a while to find out what certain things were that Ari and Jackson would talk about. After the first 3-4 chapters, things started to make sense and from there was a very exciting, non-stop, full of suspense, mystery, action, romance, and a couple steamy scenes. The plot was definitely new and very fascinating, keeping my attention throughout the entire book.

I love me some good characters, this book had many. I loved Ari, she was very curious and had a good moral compass. For years she lived naively among the academy and thought she knew what was going on. Once her eyes were opened she knew what was right and what was wrong, she knew what must be done even when it was hard.

Jackson stole my heart. If I was to date an alien, I would want one like Jackson. Good-looking, smart, , protective, and so much more. He had his secrets and that drove me a bit insane, probably as much as it did Ari. Gretchen, Ari’s best friend, and Lawrence… too much to tell here, were awesome too. Gretchen is funny, spunky, and loyal. Lawrence came off as a jerk a bit at first, a little possessive. But the more I got to know him, the more I understood, and he came out ass a great guy too. Great cast and each character has a place in my heart. No love triangle. At first I thought there would be and was happy to see, nope no triangle here.

In the End:

I was happy, smiling, satisfied. I enjoyed it from page one and am eager to pick up the next book…. One day in the far far future…
