An outcast from her home -- Shunned after a trip through the galaxy with Abel, the most advanced cybernetic man ever created, Noemi Vidal dreams of traveling through the stars one more time. And when a deadly plague arrives on Genesis, Noemi gets her chance. As the only soldier to have ever left the planet, it will be up to her to save its people...if only she wasn't flying straight into a trap.

A fugitive from his fate -- On the run to avoid his depraved creator's clutches, Abel believes he's said good-bye to Noemi for the last time. After all, the entire universe stands between them...or so he thinks. When word reaches him of Noemi's capture by the very person he's trying to escape, Abel knows he must go to her, no matter the cost.

But capturing Noemi was only part of Burton Mansfield's master plan. In a race against time, Abel and Noemi will come together once more to discover a secret that could save the known worlds, or destroy them all.

In this thrilling and romantic sequel to Defy the Stars, bestselling author Claudia Gray asks us all to consider where--and with whom--we truly belong.

I really enjoyed Defy the Stars and couldn't wait to read the second book... especially because of the way the first one ended. Unfortunately it got lost among my massive TBR. I remember getting the audio but never did listen to it. After life got in the way... I finally was able to read this book. I am happy to say I remember the first book very vividly so I was able to immerse myself into the next book quite easily. I loved it. I mean I loved it, I loved it, I loved it. I feel that this book didn't suffer from the second book syndrome at all and I felt it was even better than the first. Just by a smidge though. I do have one very harsh complaint. That freaking ending! ARGH!!!!!
This book continues the story of Noemi and Able. They have been separated and living two different lives. Able is just trying to get through living and hiding from his creator. Noemi is trying to get back to her flying times and the people from her home planet... they just are not happy with her for letting Able go. They just don't understand. Each of these characters are trying to put their lives back together and also trying to get over each other. Fate has other plans.

Noemi's planet gets overrun by a deadly virus and Noemi has to figure out how to save her planet. She is immune because of the virus she caught on Abel's ship. She has plans and she is on a mission, but its interrupted when she is kidnapped.

Abel is doing fine but he runs into an old friend at a party and bad things start to happen quickly. He finds that Noemi is in danger and needs to rescue her or die trying.

Their worlds once again collide as Abel tries to save Noemi and Noemi tries to save Able and her home planet.
So many thoughts. I will try my best to put my thoughts into actual words and express my feelings about this book. First off I just love Abel and Noemi and all their stubbornness. I am really shocked these two get anything accomplished between yelling at each other to stay out of harms way. Its really sickening but in a good way. I love how much they care for each so much more than they care for themselves. I also love how both of these characters are so selfless. Especially Noemi.

Now I did love both these characters but I did find at times they annoyed me too. It was like a love hate relationship but only because Abel.... he seemed just a tad bit obsessed... and Noemi... just a slight whiner.... but for the most part I just adore them and their relationship.

I remember when I first read about this series. I thought it would be strange since Abel is not a living breathing human... but he sort of is too. This author did such a great job making me forget that Abel is not like anyone else. I forget totally that he was created not born and that he isn't completely human but not really robot either. It really is such an amazing story.

This story brought in more things to think about, more bad guys, more moral dilemmas, more action, more suspense, more everything.

I do wish that I could have spent a bit more time with Abel and Noemi. They were together for about half the book. But it was also nice to see them in their own elements too. Its just so much better when they are together.

So I am going to take a moment and rant and rave about the ending. I thought the ending in the first book was horrifying. This book brought a whole new meaning to cliffhanger.... bad ending..... I want to throw my book moment. I mean it was all going well, things were accomplished.... then blam everything falls apart and my heart is left torn in two. Yup talk about screaming and crying and hitting things and cursing the book and the author... but not really I love you Claudia Gray. So if you don't like cliffhangers. Wait until April the next book comes out and I think this is just a trilogy. Me, well I will be sitting in a corner with my head between my knees weeping like a crazy woman who just lost her cat and her dog and her job and her house and is very hungry.

One last thing... I really really loved this book.

Um yes just superb... loved it loved it loved!

Claudia GrayClaudia Gray is not my real name. I didn't choose a pseudonym because my real name is unpleasant (it isn't), because I'd always dreamed of calling myself this (I haven't) or even because I'm hiding from the remnants of that international diamond-smuggling cartel I smashed in 2003 (Interpol has taken care of them). In short, I took a pseudonym for no real reason whatsoever. Sometimes this is actually the best reason to do things.
I live in New Orleans. So far, in life, I've been a disc jockey, a lawyer, a journalist and an extremely bad waitress, just to name a few. I especially like to spend time traveling, hiking, reading and listening to music. More than anything else, I enjoy writing.
