Bookish Banter: Are you a mood reader or a scheduled reader?

A little Bookish Banter to get us through.  Bookish Banter is a little bit of banter about our bookish thoughts as we have a friendly discussion over a nice cup of tea.

Are you a mood reader or a scheduled reader?

Ash-
A little bit of both? I have so many books that I need to read, it becomes overwhelming very quickly.

So having a list really helps me. Even if it's a broad list. Like the seasonal reading challenge, I have 70 something books to read. I divide that up by three months and then bam, that's my reading list for the month. Then weekly I pick out of that. So it's a small list and I don't really venture from it, but because it's on the list I can switch up books whenever I want.

That's also why I like posting what books I'm reading weekly on the blog, because it gives me something to follow. The thing is, then I get in a panic if I don't finish all the books I wanted to that week. But if I only post a couple books and finish them, then I'm right back at the start.

So I guess, the seasonal reading challenge is great because I don't really have to change books for a while.

I feel like I kind of rambled a bit there. So I guess I'm a mood list reader.

Jenn-

I am both. I try to be a scheduled reader because I love making a reading schedule and I like to try and follow it. But I am also ADD... so scheduled reading never seems to work out for me. I have books planned then I see another book on my shelves, in the bookstore, on NetGalley, on audible... and well there went my plan.

There are other times I have read a couple of pretty dark or heavy books in a row and I just need a break so I have to go and find a light and fluffy or humorous book to read...even when it's not on the list at all.

So even though everything starts with a good plan it doesn't stay that way. When it does though, I love my lists. I make a list for the week and put down which audio and book I will get to on which day. Then I make sure I get them done the day I told myself too. It's not a perfect system as life gets in the way and sometimes I fall behind, However, it does keep me on track to get through my books I want to get through. Especially doing the seasonal challenge. That is a lot of books to get through and I don't want to fall behind.

So how do you read... do you make a list check it twice and stick to it or you a fly by the pants kind of reader?

  1. I guess I'm probably more of a mood reader. I'm not the type of blogger that gets ARCs very often, so I don't usually NEED to read anything at a given time. I usually just go through my TBR, find some books that look interesting and are available at my library, and go from there. I'll get a big stack and whatever looks most promising at that time, I read!

  2. I try to come up with a schedule for my reads, but they're always tentative because I'm a mood reader at heart, lol.

  3. I like making lists of what I plan to read for a month, year etc and often plan themes for my reading. I used to be good at sticking to things like that but recently I'm more of a mood reader. I think it depends on my mood which way I go.

  4. I’m both! I like making lists, but they’re usually too rigid for me. If I want to read something, I have no problem abandoning my list.

  5. I guess you could say I'm a bit of both too? I'm mostly a mood reader, but I keep track of all my review copies, and I do try to get to ARCs in time for release. So usually when trying to find my next book I'll first check my list and see if I'm in the right mood for any upcoming books!
