Answer Me This. We are hoping this will help our friends get to know us a just a tad bit better.
Do you participate in Dewey's 24 hour readathon!? We sure do!!
Twice a year there is a 224-hourlong readathon hosted by Dewey's. The readathon happens in April and October of every year. It lasts from 7 AM Saturday (Central time) to 7 AM Sunday. There is mini challenges every hour, and lots to participate in.
So not only is it reading for that long, but there's games and activities as well. You can even win prizes! Like more books!
We have been participating in Deweys for years now, and the whole family, even Finn, participates.
We always have lots of snacks too. Because who wants to go without snacks when staying inside reading all day!?
So here are what we have to say about Deweys.
Ash-
I am so excited about the readathon, I even made sure I wasn't working that day. I haven't been able to make it the full 24 hours like, ever.
I always wake up late, because who wants to wake up at 7 AM!? And then I usually have to nap, because laying down and reading is exhausting. And I usually go to bed around 2 or 3 AM. Never have lasted before. Ever. I would like to this year, but I doubt it's going to happen.
Some of the best parts of the readathon, besides reading, are the snacks.
My choice of snacks is either jalapeno Cheetos or munchies, queso, and chips, some kind of candy or sweets like brownies, jalapeno poppers or mozzarella sticks. We usually have breakfast tacos in the morning, sub sandwiches for lunch, and either pizza, pizza rolls, or bagel bites for dinner.
And! We usually make homemade spinach artichoke dip and have raspberry chipotle sauce. So that's exciting.
And amongst that, I will probably have a monster, a Redbull (The tropical one) and at least one coffee. Because of 24 of hours guys.
So here is my reading plans for the readathon, I will probably start with a short book, either Playlist for the Dead or Shackled.
Then once I finish that I will listen to a short book, One Was Lost, and then if my phone hasn't died (Because audible kills phone batteries) I will listen to God Save the Queen.
If my phone decides to die, then I will go ahead and read The Wicked Deep. Once my phone has charged again, then I will go back to audio.
Not the exact way I will be doing it, but you get the idea. These are the books I am most looking forward to and hope to actually finish that day, though I do have a stack of backups as well, in case I'm not in the mood for any of those.
So my backups are...
Who knows, maybe I'll get through them all (Doubtfully...)
Jenn:
Dewey's is just part of our family tradition. We don't always to participate twice a year but we sure try. I think we have missed 3 due to unforeseen events like a flood in the house, getting our house ready for sale, and I think we were out of town one year. So yes we try to do this as much as we possibly can. We love the 24-hour readathon.
I know it's about reading yes, but I also love the updates, the challenges, and of course all the snacks.
Snacks you say, yes I said snacks. I do get all the snacks. Always on my list to snack on is grapes, cheese cubes, sprees, and of water crackers with raspberry chipotle sauce. of course, I share with Ash too so I get some of her yummy snacks.
We have at least two Starbuck runs, soda in the fridge, and I always have some monster coffees on hand. I should probably get more water in there.
I like to read on my couch, on my bed, outside lounging. If I need to go somewhere in goes the buds with an audiobook. I take this seriously, of course not serious enough to ever last 24 hours.
Nope, I am a wimp. I think my average is 16-18 hours and one year I made it to 22 hours. We will see what this year brings.
Here are my potentials for my all day reading event...

I used to run a seven day readathon over on bookcrossing until another girl on the site decided to steal it from me. It used to be a lot of fun. I don't take part in any now though.
ReplyDeleteI love Dewey’s! I’ve never been able to read for the full 24 hours though. Good luck with your reading!
