Goodreads Summary:

She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.

Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real….

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….

I wish I could go back and do a thousand things differently.

I'd tell my sister no.

I'd never beg my mother to talk to my dad.

I'd zip my lips and swallow those hateful words.

Or, barring all of that, I'd hug my sister, my mom and my dad one last time.

I'd tell them I love them.

I wish... Yeah, I wish.

Review:

I wanted this book from the moment I saw it on a blog. Like most, I assumed this book would be a zombie retelling of Alice in Wonderland. The title and the cover kind of leads to that, but it’s not a retelling, but it is awesome. Full off suspense, action, romance, and of course zombies, it had everything I need in a book.

The short and Sweet of it:

It’s Alice’s birthday, her father never allows the family to go out at night, but Alice begs him, for her birthday. On the way home there is a car accident and Alice is the only survivor. Alice is moved in with her grandparents and she mourns her family, makes friends, lives a life she always wanted, and finds out everything she thought was crazy- is true. Monsters do exist. She knows they exist and now she wants to kill them all.

My Thoughts:

I was amazed by this book. The beginning started off with a bam, and the middle had a bam, and it ended with a bam. It knocked me off my feet. The writing style was the perfect pace for me. I wanted to read and read and read. The setting felt like an old fashioned story at first but with a bit of a modern touch. There were cars, cell phones, music… all the normal stuff we have today but had a very vintage feel. I really liked that. The zombies were crazy. So different than other zombie books, a mixture of zombie, vampire, and ghost wrapped up to make one scary monster. It was pretty cool.

I loved the characters in this book. Every single one…. Alice is very mature for her age but also very naïve. She is experiencing the world as a regular teenager for the very first time, and instead of feeling that it’s everything it should be she realizes it’s not as she always thought. She finds out her father was not crazy. Instead of running, she takes it in then decides she wants revenge. So kick butt! Cole is so swoon-worthy. He is the cool guy in school, the untouchable, but Alice gets under his skin, gets to know him and he isn’t really that untouchable. He just has a crazy life he doesn’t want to bring others into. He is very caring, loyal, and has that hero essence. My ultimate love goes to Kat, Alice’s best friend. I loved her the moment she stepped out of the pages. She is very charismatic, sarcastic, crazy, and just plain lovable. Her instant friendship with Alice is fun and her loyalty to Alice is awesome.

I really loved this book and I am really excited for the next installment. It seems so far away! For sure a keeper for me.

  1. I bought a hardcover of Alice, but I think I might get the audio so that I can get to it sooner rather than later. It sounds like it's got some great characters and a great plot, as well, but I kind of expected that. I love all things Alice and zombie! :) Great review!
