Q: Jumping Genres: Ever pick up a book from a genre you usually don't like and LOVE it? Tell us about it and why you picked it up in the first place.
A: I have done this with both High Fantasy and Contemporary Romance. In High Fantasy I picked up Candlewax by C. Baily Sims. The book was so magical to me and I fell in love after just a few pages. The book was offered on Netgalley and after reading a part in the synopsis about a giant talking cat, I figured I needed to see what it was all about. It was such a great read. On Contemporary Romance side it was a few that really dug deep into my heart. The most memorable one was How to Ruin a Summer Vacation by Simone Elkeles. I picked this one up because the title just made me giggle and the synopsis sounded fun. It was a very fun book, but surprise, very emotional and deep too. I have learned to not judge a book by it's genre and just read everything!

Q: Comfort Reads: Which books do you go to for comfort & familiarity? Is there a type of book you seek out when you're needing that extra bit of comfort in your life?
A: Twilight will always be my books of familiarity, they are easy reads for me. I can start and stop anytime since I know the story so well. When I just want to read but don't want to get too involved, I can pick one up. Although that does not happen much. There is way too much to read there.
Books of comfort would be anything light and fluffy. A cute love story, or a book that just keeps me laughing like Diary of a Wimpy kid.
I read just about anything, but when entering a book store, I go straight for the YA paranormal first.

Hopping through. I didn't really like high fantasy until I read Harry Potter (although that's not really high fantasy). Now I read a lot of it.

I am the same way with Contemporary, til I read Decadent Dreams and it made me rethink my opinion of the genre.

I havent read either of those, maybe I'll have to look into them.

Ah, I wish cute and fluffy would comfort me, too! Oh and Twilight! I don't like the books anymore, but I think if I read them, they'd comfort me anyway. *g*

Isn't it great to find new books, which make you fall in love with a new genre? :D
I think it's great that you enjoy Twilight so much! It may not be a personal favorite, but I love it when people started to re-enjoy reading because of that series.
ReplyDeleteLight & fluffy works for when I'm in the mood for a comfy read too - although I have to admit, I haven't read any of the Twilight books yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. Old follower.
ReplyDeleteI just can't get myself to read contemporary stuff. Maybe I need to find one that intrigues me like that book did for you.
