Review:
This was one of those books I kept seeing and kept thinking “I need to read that one” but never get around to it. I finally did. It was incredible. I was so intrigued by the idea of the Revenants, so original. The character development was wonderful, the writing style excellent, the pacing was good, I liked everything about this book.

The story was amazing. I was drawn into this world so quickly. Kate moves to Paris with her sister after their parents die. The stay with their grandparents and prepare to make a new life. Kate is very slow at moving on. She doesn’t want to leave her room, she doesn’t want to have a life. Kate is slow convinced to leave the house and that is when she meets Vincent for the first time. She starts to see him everywhere and that’s is not all she ends up seeing. She sees Vincent and his friend places where people are dying or almost dying. After spending time with Vincent she learns he and his household are Revenants, the best way to describe them is guardian zombies, except without the decay and the smell. Kate also learns there are evil zombies out there and she is soon part of new exciting but dangerous world.

I think I liked every character in this book. I will start with Kate. I had a hard time with her at first because she was so sad, it was a little depressing, but that part of the story. She comes to life after she meets Vincent. It takes her a bit to come around to the idea of her boyfriend dying over and over, but I guess that is expected. She is very stubborn at times but has a really good heart. I am anxious to see where her story will lead. Vincent is wonderful, swoon worthy, (except he dies a lot) and very chivalrous. Very old fashioned but not at the annoying level. He tries to be reasonable when he can. Kate and Vincent’s relationship is very engaging, they feel right together, and I can’t help but want have more of them.

There are many other characters to love, Kate’s sister and grandparents, Vincent’s friends and family. There are so many it would take a while to get through them, but I want to make sure and say they are great supporting characters.

Even though there are many reviews and good words about these books, I wasn’t in a real hurry to read this series at first. It seems that the YA world is full to capacity of paranormal romances, but this one was worth the read. It has the same feel, same main focuses, but different background story and exceptional characters that kept me turning pages. (well kept me listening!) I can’t wait to read the next book.
