Her home and her secret are threatened when the Council lowers the barrier, allowing the enemy race to enter the Shythe haven.

As the Narcolym airships approach, Dez and her friends rebel against their Council and secretly train for battle. Not only is Dez wary of war and her growing affection for her best friend Jace, but she fears the change her birthday will bring. When Dez’s newfound power rockets out of control, it’s a Narcolym who could change her fate... if she can trust him.

Dez’s guarded world crumbles when she discovers why the Narcos have really come to Haven Falls, and she's forced to choose between the race who raised her and the enemy she's feared her whole life.

Review:

I have been intrigued by this book for quite a while and when I was happy to jump on the blog tour. I was amazed by this book. I have to admit it was nothing of what I expected, but it was really awesome. Great read!

Dez is from a race of shape shifters and her first shift is coming soon, with the shift comes her powers. Dez is scared of her first shift and has to turn to seclusion until the shift is over. During this time she meets a boy, Reese, who has something in common with her. She is falling quickly for this boy, even though he may be from the wrong side. On the other side of things Dez has mixed feelings for her best friend, Jace, who is definitely on the right side, and she doesn’t know what to do with these new found feelings. Boy trouble isn’t the only trouble, there is also a war brewing.

Dez is a great character! She has some dumb teenage girl moments and a few trust issues, but other than those minor issues she is an awesome character who can really kick butt. She is independent, street savvy, and has a killer attitude. I liked her from the very start. Jace is a the boy next door, the leader of the pack, and part of a triplet set, all of whom are best friends to Dez. He cares deeply for Dez and is very protective for those he cares about. He is a little too serious and needs to learn to relax. Reese stole my heart. He is sarcastic, playful, dangerous, all of the elements I look for in my guys. He is the complete opposite of Jace. This creates quite a conflict between the two boys, well other than the Dez factor.

The plot of this story was really exciting and different. It was a nice change of pace. The love triangle is there, but for some reason fits better in this story than most. The world created for this story was beautiful, a hint of mythology with steam punk essence filled with superhero powers. Pretty cool! The world was vivid and overfilling with imagination. The story was fast paced but without rushing the important parts.

I am very very excited to read the next installment. I keep looking for an update; I will grab it as soon as it is out! I loved this book and can’t gush about it enough. I feel it’s a must read.

  1. Awesome review, Jenn! I'm in the middle of this book and finding that I love both Reese and Jace, which is tough for an author to accomplish in a love triangle.
