Quarantine: The Loners by Lex Thomas
It was just another ordinary day at McKinley High—until a massive explosion devastated the school. When loner David Thorpe tried to help his English teacher to safety, the teacher convulsed and died right in front of him. And that was just the beginning.
A year later, McKinley has descended into chaos. All the students are infected with a virus that makes them deadly to adults. The school is under military quarantine. The teachers are gone. Violent gangs have formed based on high school social cliques. Without a gang, you’re as good as dead. And David has no gang. It’s just him and his little brother, Will, against the whole school.
In this frighteningly dark and captivating novel, Lex Thomas locks readers inside a school where kids don’t fight to be popular, they fight to stay alive.
Top Ten is an original feature/weekly meme created here at
The Broke and the Bookish that features a great bookish top ten every week.
This week is about those books I want to read but I just can't seem to pick them up or get to to them because they intimidate me for some reason... Here is my list.
Top Ten Books that Intimidate Me. :
Top Ten Books that Intimidate Me. :
1. Quintana of Charyn by Melina Marchetta- For a couple of reasons. It's the last one... I don't want to finish the series and I don't think I will but I don't want to be disappointed.
3. The Help by Kathryn Stockett - Its an adult book. They are scary.
5. Lies by Michael Grant - I want to finish this series I do. I loved the first one but the second disappointed a bit so I am worried the rest of the series may just be more disappoints.
7. Dust and Decay by Jonathan Maberry - Someone told me a spoiler about the book and I don't want it to happen. So I am refusing to read it.
8. The Savage Grace by Bree Despain - I am a little concerned on how the series will end.
9. Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers - Another one I am worried its all hype. I am picky over High Fantasy and I get a little concerned when I see a High Fantasy with lots of high ratings.
10. Hemlock by Kathleen Peacock - Another paranormal, I have veered a away a bit from the paranormal because of the same ole same ole.
Whats is on your list?
It sure sounds like a great read!!
ReplyDeleteHere is my post
Books can only intimidate us if we let those!! I simply cannot stand certain genres.
Come, check my Top Ten post!
Wow, that's a good teaser! Hehe...I try not to let books intimidate me, but I have to admit I've had Revolution on my shelf for a couple of years now, unread, and I still haven't started the Lumatere Chronicles yet. Eon, Grave Mercy & Hemlock were all great reads...so get on that! :D
ReplyDeleteYou seem to avoid books for the same reasons I do! I have Before I Fall on my bookshelf right now and I'm afraid to read it too. I plan on reading it this summer though! I've already started on one of the books from my list of intimidating books. I'm hoping I'm not disappointed!
ReplyDeleteAwesome tease. I've been curious about Quarantine. Thanks for the list :)
ReplyDeleteGrave Mercy was SO GOOD. And, it's follow-up, Dark Triumph, was even better. If you like fantasy, you won't be sorry.

Oh The Help is one of my favorite books ever! I also just read Before I Fall a couple months ago and i loved that, too. Phew - avoided the black sheep on those ones lol. I do want to read the Jonathan Mayberry series SO BADLY!!
ReplyDeleteI am stuck at the same place with the Gone series. I liked the first book but really struggled through the second. I want to know what happens, but I keep putting off trying to read any more. I actually did try Lies and couldn't get through much of it, but that might have been leftover from the second book. Or maybe this just isn't the series for me?
ReplyDeleteI've been afraid of the help too! I haven't watched the movie either because I'm stubborn when it comes to watching movies based off books that i haven't read yet!
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by my teaser this week!

Awesome teaser! :) And Before I fall wasn't what I expected. I can't say if it was better or not than what I was expecting but I know I liked it. :) As for Grave Mercy, that one was a long read for me. I'm not into historical very much but I'm very happy I read it. I even a a review for it. I love the next installment, Dark Triumph, so much better though. It's definitely worth the read if you ask me.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the ending to The Savage Grace, I'm sure you'll like it too!
And ooooh, you have to give Hemlock a try! I adored that one and am sooooo very eager for the sequel this September!! Yes, it's another werewolf read but I believe Kathleen gives her own spin to it very nicely!
Here's my Teaser
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
I've had the same reservations about The Savage Grace. I highly recommend the Help. I really enjoyed it! :)
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing with series I love that when the last one comes out I'm so hesitant to read it in fear I will hate the ending. I was surprised by Before I Fall. I thought I would hate it but I really liked it. Great list.
ReplyDeleteThis book looks like an awesome read, thanks for sharing! Check out my teaser @ This Is How It's Supposed To Be
