The Selection by Kiera Cass
Publication Date: April 24, 2012
I have seen this book around for a while now. The cover really sucks me in and the story sounds amazing....
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

This cover is absolutely stunning! Not sure about the premise, but I'd give it a shot!

America is a great heroine mostly because she's strong without being abnormal. She's a little bit introverted without being cold. She's able to be a bit goofy, and while she's often in a state of emotional flux, she's not weepy or outrageous about it. All in all, she's an ordinary teenager in an extraordinary situation. Which I think YA readers need.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for the boys.... Maxon is super adorable. And such a good guy. And Aspen plays the part of so-wrong-but-so-right first love very well. America's final decision on how to deal with her love triangle is truly reasonable- an outcome that you almost never see in a YA novel.
