I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. I was very excited and even though I was on the tour and had the kindle version ready at my fingertips, I decided I needed the audio. The audio was very good, good narrator, and I am glad I listened to the book. The story was good. I liked the concept. It wasn't quite what I expected, this is a build up for the coming books, so it is a little slow at times, but it has great potential for a series.
There are children, teens, that are called indigo children. They are children with strong psychic gifts, they are being hunted buy believers, an organized group who truly believe these kids are dangerous and just wrong. The story is basically about kids finding each other to stay safe and possibly create something more together. Lucas escapes from the mental ward, his sister, Rayne, decides to take off and find him before he gets hurt, hunted, or just in trouble. Along the way she meets Gabe, who is mysterious and jaded. He has a special ability to draw what he dreams, which is details of what is to come.When he starts drawing Lucas, Rayne enlists him on her mission. Lucas meets up with a group of children underground, all with special abilities like him. And the entire time they are all being hunted.
I really liked the story, the concept really has so many directions it can go and I think this book was a great start. There were a few things that I had a hard time with like the many many many different points of views. It was confusing at times to keep up with them all. It think the audio made it a bit easier though. I liked all the points of views, I just think there were too many going on at one time. The story was a bit slow in the beginning. It was more of a background story for me, something to set up what future books will be about, so I am excited to see where the story goes. I was expecting more action, suspense, more of a "thrill of the chase" book. It's not at all what the book is, but that was okay in the end. I really liked the characters, but I did have a hard time really getting a feel for them all. I think this goes back to the many different points of view. I never felt that I was spending enough quality time with all of them. I think if the book would have focused more on just a couple of the kids and not the bad guys, I could have become closer to the characters. Although, I think that the bad guys point of view really told some aspects of the story that would have been lost if we didn't see it. Back the the characters, I did like Rayne and Gabe. I felt closest to them and Rayne was by far my favorite. Rayne is stubborn, independent, confident, and doesn't back down to anyone. I really enjoyed her character. Gabe was a loner, hurting inside, a real brooder. He was good guy though and I liked him from the start. He has real swoon worth potential. One thing I hope to see in the next installment is a closer looker and more time with the main characters. I think I really can fall in love with all of them.
The story really has somewhere to go and I can't wait to see where that is. I was a bit distracted at times when the story slowed down, but it was good and I will continue the series.
