Down the TBR Hole 6

Ash:

Hollowland (The Hollows, #1)
Hollowland by Amanda Hocking

This is the way the world ends - not with a bang or a whimper, but with zombies breaking down the back door.
Nineteen-year-old Remy King is on a mission to get across the wasteland left of America, and nothing will stand in her way - not violent marauders, a spoiled rock star, or an army of flesh-eating zombies

I don't remember anything about this book to be honest. I don't remember ever seeing it. But after reading the description I think I'm going to keep it on my list.

Ashfall (Ashfall, #1)
Ashfall by Mike Mullin

Under the bubbling hot springs and geysers of Yellowstone National Park is a supervolcano. Most people don't know it's there. The caldera is so large that it can only be seen from a plane or satellite. It just could be overdue for an eruption, which would change the landscape and climate of our planet.
For Alex, being left alone for the weekend means having the freedom to play computer games and hang out with his friends without hassle from his mother. Then the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts, plunging his hometown into a nightmare of darkness, ash, and violence. Alex begins a harrowing trek to search for his family and finds help in Darla, a travel partner he meets along the way. Together they must find the strength and skills to survive and outlast an epic disaster.
Wow this one sounds great too. I think we own this one too so I'm going to keep it.

Ashes, Ashes (Ashes, Ashes, #1)
Ashes, Ashes by Jo Treggiari

Epidemics, floods, droughts - for sixteen-year-old Lucy, the end of the world came and went, taking 99% of the population with it. As the weather continues to rage out of control, and Sweepers clean the streets of plague victims, Lucy survives alone in the wilds of Central Park. But when she's rescued from a pack of hunting dogs by a mysterious boy named Aidan, she reluctantly realizes she can't continue on her own. She joins his band of survivors, yet, a new danger awaits her: the Sweepers are looking for her. There's something special about Lucy, and they will stop at nothing to have her.

Ha, all of these are apocalyptic or dystopian of some sort. That's fantastic. Anyway, I don't think this is one I'm interested in anymore. So I'm taking it off the list. At least I took one off! Go me!

Angelfire (Angelfire, #1)
Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton

First there are nightmares.
Every night Ellie is haunted by terrifying dreams of monstrous creatures that are hunting her, killing her.

Then come the memories.
When Ellie meets Will, she feels on the verge of remembering something just beyond her grasp. His attention is intense and romantic, and Ellie feels like her soul has known him for centuries. On her seventeenth birthday, on a dark street at midnight, Will awakens Ellie's power, and she knows that she can fight the creatures that stalk her in the grim darkness. Only Will holds the key to Ellie's memories, whole lifetimes of them, and when she looks at him, she can no longer pretend anything was just a dream.

Now she must hunt.
Ellie has power that no one can match, and her role is to hunt and kill the reapers that prey on human souls. But in order to survive the dangerous and ancient battle of the angels and the Fallen, she must also hunt for the secrets of her past lives and truths that may be too frightening to remember.
For now I will keep this one. I think I might have it on my physical book shelf, if not its on kindle for pretty cheap. It has some good reviews. I am going to try and get to it.

Found (The Missing, #1)
The Missing series by Margaret Peterson Haddix

Thirteen-year-old Jonah has always known that he was adopted, and he's never thought it was any big deal. Then he and a new friend, Chip, who's also adopted, begin receiving mysterious letters. The first one says, "You are one of the missing." The second one says, "Beware! They're coming back to get you."
Jonah, Chip, and Jonah's sister, Katherine, are plunged into a mystery that involves the FBI, a vast smuggling operation, an airplane that appeared out of nowhere - and people who seem to appear and disappear at will. The kids discover they are caught in a battle between two opposing forces that want very different things for Jonah and Chip's lives.
Do Jonah and Chip have any choice in the matter? And what should they choose when both alternatives are horrifying?
With Found, Margaret Peterson Haddix begins a new series that promises to be every bit as suspenseful as Among the Hidden, and proves her, once again, to be a master of the page-turner.

I read the first book and I think I liked it but I never really had the desire to read the next book in the series. So I am taking the series off my TBR.

My Soul to Take (Soul Screamers, #1)
Soul Screams series by Rachel Vincent

She doesn't see dead people. She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.

Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next.

This is one of the series I enjoyed and never finished. So I have them on audio and hope to read and finish the series. So it's staying.

  1. I haven't read any of these books. I do have at least some of the books in the Rachel Vincent series so that on is on my tbr list. You both reduced your tbr pile just a bit which is nice.

  2. Wow, Margaret Peterson Haddix! I remember seeing a lot of her books at the library when I was in elementary school, but I haven't seen any since then. Good luck with tackling your TBR :)

  6. Ashfall was an ok read for me but I do prefer adult rather than YA apocalypse stories!
