Cover Up: Recent Reads #14

This feature I will just gab, remark, feature book covers.

For this cover up I will be comparing two different editions of the same book, from books I've read recently. I will try to do this every couple weeks or so. Can be from a different country, or just a different edition in general

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick
Danger is hard to resist in this sexy thriller from Becca Fitzpatrick, the New York Times bestselling author of the Hush, Hush saga.
Britt Pheiffer has trained to backpack the Teton Range, but she isn’t prepared when her ex-boyfriend, who still haunts her every thought, wants to join her. Before Britt can explore her feelings for Calvin, an unexpected blizzard forces her to seek shelter in a remote cabin, accepting the hospitality of its two very handsome occupants—but these men are fugitives, and they take her hostage.
Britt is forced to guide the men off the mountain, and knows she must stay alive long enough for Calvin to find her. The task is made even more complicated when Britt finds chilling evidence of a series of murders that have taken place there…and in uncovering this, she may become the killer’s next target.
But nothing is as it seems, and everyone is keeping secrets, including Mason, one of her kidnappers. His kindness is confusing Britt. Is he an enemy? Or an ally?
American Cover                                               Spanish Cover
    Black Ice                               Hielo negro

There was a TON of editions for this book it was so hard to pick one. I like the Spanish one a lot but I definitely like the American cover the best.

Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhard
From the author of the unforgettable New York Times bestseller We Were Liars comes a masterful new psychological suspense novel--the story of a young woman whose diabolical smarts are her ticket into a charmed life. But how many times can someone reinvent themselves? You be the judge.
Imogen is a runaway heiress, an orphan, a cook, and a cheat.
Jule is a fighter, a social chameleon, and an athlete.
An intense friendship. A disappearance. A murder, or maybe two.
A bad romance, or maybe three.
Blunt objects, disguises, blood, and chocolate. The American dream, superheroes, spies, and villains.
A girl who refuses to give people what they want from her.
A girl who refuses to be the person she once was.
     American Cover                                  Alternate American Cover
                                Genuine Fraud

                                                                 Italian Cover
                                                         L'amica perfetta

I messed up with this one. I couldn't pick which one I liked for the alternate covers so I picked both... Oops. I love both the alternate American and the Italian one.

Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick
It could happen tomorrow . . .
An electromagnetic pulse flashes across the sky, destroying every electronic device, wiping out every computerized system, and killing billions.
Alex hiked into the woods to say good-bye to her dead parents and her personal demons. Now desperate to find out what happened after the pulse crushes her to the ground, Alex meets up with Tom—a young soldier—and Ellie, a girl whose grandfather was killed by the EMP.
For this improvised family and the others who are spared, it’s now a question of who can be trusted and who is no longer human.

     American Cover                                            German Cover
Ashes (Ashes Trilogy, #1)                               Brennendes Herz (Ashes, #1)

Oh wow that German cover is absolutely stunning. I can't really pick which I like best. Because for some reason the American one I really like. But that German cover though.

The Things She's Seen by Ambelin and Ezekial Kwaymullina
Nothing's been the same for Beth Teller since the day she died.
Her dad is drowning in grief. He's also the only one who has been able to see and hear her since the accident. But now she's got a mystery to solve, a mystery that will hopefully remind her detective father that he is still alive, that there is a life after Beth that is still worth living.
Who is Isobel Catching, and why is she able to see Beth, too? What is her connection to the crime Beth's father has been sent to investigate--a gruesome fire at a home for troubled youth that left an unidentifiable body behind? What happened to the people who haven't been seen since the fire?
As Beth and her father unravel the mystery, they find a shocking and heartbreaking story lurking beneath the surface of a small town, and a friendship that lasts beyond one life and into another...
  American Cover                                                   Alternate American Cover
The Things She's Seen                                 Catching Teller Crow

What is going on with the cover on the right?? It's a different name and everything. It's really pretty but I LOVE the original cover. That butterfly is gorgeous.

Plague Land by Alex Scarrow
It happened within a week . . .
Leon and his younger sister, Grace, have recently moved to London from New York and are struggling to settle into their new school, when rumours of an unidentified virus in Africa begin to fill the news. Within a week the virus hits London. The siblings witness people turning to liquid before their eyes, and they run for their lives. A month after touching Earth's atmosphere, the virus has assimilated the world's biomass.
But the virus isn't their only enemy, and survival is just the first step. Plague Land is the explosive first novel in the Remade trilogy from the bestselling and award-winning author of TimeRiders, Alex Scarrow.
                   American Cover                                           Czech Cover
               Plague Land                            Remade (Remade, #1)

I love the American cover. The Czech one is okay but looks like fantart to me.

  1. For the covers I'd go with the Spanish cover for Black Ice as I love proper snow scenes, the American cover for Ashes as I'm not a fan of vague faces on covers, the alternate crow cover as I love crows of all kinds and I agree with you on Plague Land. That is the kind of apocalypse cover I go for!

  2. Great post! On Genuine Fraud I think I'd have to go with the alternate American cover as my fave.
