Wee Reads: King Ben and Sir Rhino by Eric Sailer

Ever since Finn was born, and even before then, we would read to him. We wanted to show him reading from an early age. Now he loves us to read the same books, over, and over, and over. But it is the sweetest thing, when he likes to pick out a book and climb into our laps.

King Ben and Sir RhinoKing Ben and Sir Rhino by Eric Sailer

Ben is king of the jungle. He does exactly what he pleases, as a king should. And he has everything a king could want: noble steeds, castles, and servants. What Ben doesn’t have is a loyal subject. Then he meets Rhino…and finds out what being a good king is all about.

Do you like this book?
Yeah because of the rhino and the lion!

What's your favorite part of the book?
When he made a mess in the kitchen and on the rhinos face! And when they were playing soccer. The ball hit his belly. And then the lion gave the rhino his toy back and I liked that because he was so happy!

What do you think of the cover?
I like it. I like the lion and the hair and the rhino and the horns and the ears and the wagon. And I like that funny looking tree!

Do you want me to read it again?
Yes!

King Ben and Sir Rhino is about a lion named Ben who is king of the jungle. He has servants, and can get whatever he wants. But he realizes he's very lonely and doesn't have any loyal subjects. He finds a Rhino who he has become his loyal subject, and they play together. The lion is very mean to the rhino though, and he always does whatever he wants to do. The rhino ends up getting upset and leaving Ben all alone.

This is a great book that teaches about sharing, playing fairly, and not being mean to your friends.

I think the artwork is a little weird in places, but it's still cute none the less.
