Tag, You're It! Book Reader Problems Tag

Stolen from Kristen at A Book Nut

1. You have 20,000 books in your TBR, how in the world do you decide what to read next?

Ash-
Well, that's kind of what I have the reading challenge for. I've also started doing this thing where I write down the books and draw three a week to try to decide.

Jenn-
I like challenges. That helps. Other than that I do mood reading.

2. You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you put it down or are you committed?

Ash-
I put it down. I have no problem marking a book as DNF.

Jenn-
Oh, put it down. I used to have to finish but I realized too many books not enough time... why would I finish a book I am not enjoying.

3. The end of the year is coming and you’re behind on your reading challenge, do you try to catch up? And if so, how?

Ash-
I do! First I try not to give myself something that's too high to actually finish. But if I am behind I'll try to pick super short books to finish. It counts right?

Jenn-
I always try to finish up. I would just read a bunch of short books until I was caught up.

4. The covers of a series you love do not match, how do you cope?

Ash-
I will literally get rid of all the books I currently have and buy the new covers.

Jenn-
I re-buy all the books too match. Is there another way to handle this?

5. Everyone and their mother loves a book that you do not. Who do you bond with over your shared feelings?

Ash-
My momma. Jenn and I usually agree on that sort of thing. But I have a few friends who I can talk books with as well.

Jenn-
Ash- I will complain to her. Ask her for her thoughts... then I also talk to anyone who has read it. Even if they love it and I don't I can still talk about it.

6. You’re reading a book in public and you’re about to start crying. How do you deal?

Ash-
I will put the book down because I refuse to cry in public.

Jenn-
7. The sequel to a book you loved just came out but you’ve forgotten a lot of what happens. Are you going to reread it?

Ash-
I try not to start a series until all of them are out. Now that's not easy now that I'm doing reviews. So, in general, yes, I would reread the first book.

Jenn-
I cry. I can't stop it anyway. So I just let the tears flow.

8. You do not want anyone to borrow your books, how do you politely say no when someone asks?

Ash-
I have a handful of people who can borrow my books. If anyone else asks I just say I don't like loaning my books because I'm super protective of them.

Jenn-
The only person who borrows my books is Ash. I used to allow it when someone would ask. Sometimes I would get them back and sometimes not. I can always buy again if needed. I would rather lose the book and someone find joy in it then always have the book and not share the joy.

9. You have picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over this reading slump?

Ash-
I'm having a huge reading slump right now. I'm trying to get myself excited by blogging and making lists, but it's hard.

Jenn-
I try to find the genre I love and read a book from that genre. Or Find an author I always love and read them. And if that doesn't work I find one I have been dreaming of reading for a very long time and read it.

10. There are so many books coming out that you are dying to read, how many do you end up buying?

Ash-
New books we usually limit ourselves to 2 or 3 a month. But then there's also audio in which we buy like 5 or 6 a month and then used books...

Jenn-
Umm, all of them duh!

11. After you purchase all of these books that you’re dying to read how long do they sit on your shelves before you get to them?

Ash-
I have books from literally 4 years ago still sitting on my shelf. I'm awful at reading the books I just bought.

Jenn-
Oh, that depends. Sometimes right away sometimes a year. I am such a mood reader it's hard to tell.

  1. Oooh this is a fun tag! I mean, #1 isn't even much of an exaggeration for most of us, is it? Nice that you can both DNF, I have such a terrible time doing so! I cry reading in public- like Jenn, I cannot stop it. I was reading THUG on a plane and scared the older gentleman sitting next to me with my tears I think. I am kind of impressed that you guys rebuy the series if the covers don't match! I don't know why but unless I loooooved the covers (like when they were going to change The Winner's Curse, what even!?) I mostly don't care! Thanks for sharing this, so fun!!

  2. I think this is one of the first tags I ever did on my blog. I guess it’s been around for years. I’m trying to get better at DNFing. I have tons of books on my TBR shelf, so I shouldn’t feel guilty about abandoning one, but I do!

  3. I hate when the cover designs change during a series...it really bugs me but I don't have the money to change the whole thing to look the same. I have no problem DNFing books I'm not enjoying. I never read in public so I don't have that problem thankfully. I tend to cry more watching tv than reading anyway. And nobody gets to borrow my books except my dad. I used to give books to my uncle but he'd smoke while he was reading and they would come back stinking!
