London and her teenage friends live in a reprocessed world.

Confined within Capital City’s concrete walls, London has done the impossible and the illegal. She’s created something New- a song. But her mentor, club owner Pauly, is not impressed. Since the historic Energy Crisis forced everyone behind walls generations ago, the Tycoons have ensured there is truly nothing new allowed under the sun. Pauly warns London to keep her song to herself, if she knows what’s good for her.

What he doesn’t know is that London is keeping an even bigger secret: she dreams. And she’s not alone. London’s band-mates and friends have begun dreaming as well, seeing themselves in “night pictures” as beings from another world. As Otherborn, they must piece together the story of their astral avatars, the Others, in order to save their world from a dreamless, hopeless future.

When Pauly is murdered and an Otherborn goes missing, London realizes someone is hunting them down. Escaping along the Outroads, they brave the deserted Houselands with only their dreams to guide them. Can they find their friend before the assassin finds them? Will being Otherborn save their lives, or destroy them?

This was a really good book. From beginning to end it was drew me in. The story is very original for me and very well thought out. The characters were also well written and the story had really good character building. One of the main draws of the book is the mystery. I had to keep reading to figure out what was going on.  The book did have some action too and of course romance. I enjoyed this read very much.

London is an otherborn, this is what her and her friends decided to call each other when the figured out they were all having the same dreams. The live in world with no creativity and no dreaming.  A very gray world, dirty, unhealthy, hard to live world. They all start dreaming and what they dream is themselves in a different world, looking different, named different, living different.  There have been two murders and one disappearance. The otherborns that are left, London and her friends, go on a journey to find their missing friend while trying to figure out what is going, why they are dreaming, and who are these otherborns?

This story was really fresh and original. I loved the plot. It was completely different than what I am have read in a while and it was so nice to get out of the same old same old. The writing was done very well also. I appreciated how everything wasn't given at once. From the very beginning I was aware of the dreaming and the otherborn, but as the murders happen more was revealed but in slow pace. It was like holding a balloon with a small hole and little by little the air comes out... until a little after halfway then the air starts escaping faster. This book was like that. I had to keep reading to get to the next bit of info. It was a little slow in the beginning but not enough to deter me away from finding out what was going on. Somewhere about halfway the book just goes and it goes and goes.  It was a wonderful combination of sci fi, dystopian, and mystery.

The characters are pretty hard core too. The main character, London is a very troubled girl but she is loyal. That is her best quality. She is very quick to react, stubborn, and a bit over emotional. She has had a very difficult life and found some not so healthy ways to deal with it. She does love her friends though and she proved over and over she would do anything for them. She was likable character in her good qualities and bit aggravating with her not so good qualities. The good did win over the bad. I liked her.

There is a bit of romance and its not insta love. It started as friendship and led into more. I love those sweet romances. I did miss some of the adrenaline rush with the insta love but I did enjoy the development of the romance.

This world building and setting in this book was your normal dystopian world but the otherborn world brought in a completely new world that really was amazing. Finding out more about the otherborns was really what kept me turning the pages. It was set up nicely and well done.

I enjoyed reading through this story. I can't wait to read more and I am excited that it is a series.
