  3. America is a great heroine mostly because she's strong without being abnormal. She's a little bit introverted without being cold. She's able to be a bit goofy, and while she's often in a state of emotional flux, she's not weepy or outrageous about it. All in all, she's an ordinary teenager in an extraordinary situation. Which I think YA readers need.

    And as for the boys.... Maxon is super adorable. And such a good guy. And Aspen plays the part of so-wrong-but-so-right first love very well. America's final decision on how to deal with her love triangle is truly reasonable- an outcome that you almost never see in a YA novel.
