‘Your husband didn’t kill himself.’
Five years rebuilding your life. Five words will destroy it again.

Mia Hamilton lived the perfect life with her husband, university teacher Zach, and their two-year-old daughter, Freya. But everything changed when Zach committed suicide on the same night one of his students, Josie Carpenter, vanished.

Five years later, and Josie is still missing but Mia has finally found some happiness with new boyfriend Will.

Until one day when stranger Alison walks into her life and tells Mia that her husband didn’t kill himself.

Desperate to find out what really happened to Zach, Mia is forced to put her trust in Alison. But she soon discovers that Alison has her own agenda behind exposing the details of Zach’s death. Can Mia really believe anything Alison says?

Mia must decide how far she is willing to go to uncover the truth – even if she risks losing everything she loves.

I discovered this book by accident. I needed a title with Lies for a challenge and when I searched this one came up. It sounded good, it was on audio, and it had the word lies in the title. I bought it, I listened to it, I really enjoyed it. I went into this read with the only expectation that it was a psychological thriller. This is what I expected and this is what I got. It was a very interesting read, it messed with my mind and kept me guessing. It was really good.
Mia lost her husband to suicide after the discovery that he had a relationship with a student of his. (college not high school) It is now 5 years after the fact and Mia is a therapist, a patient of hers comes to her and states Mia's husband didn't kill himself. This brings all new questions and a mission to Mia's life. She must know what her patient, Alison, was talking about. How did she know this and why would she say this. In the uncertainty of Alison's words, Mia takes it upon herself to figure out the truth. In this, she finds discoveries, truths, lies, and maybe not everything is what it seemed before.

This book was really really good. It is one of those reads that I can't really speak to much about as it is a psychological thriller and so much is based on not knowing what the heck is going on or what happened. Everything comes out piece by piece in the read and saying anything could give something away.

I think the best thing to do with these type of reads is to go in blind with knowing only the synopsis or maybe not even that.

I can say the story was written well. The characters were developed well. The pacing was perfect for this kind of story. Everything made sense at the end. The entire read was wanting and searching for the truth. I never had anything figured out. There were times I thought I did but really maybe not. Its a ride and I enjoyed it very well.

The chapters did alternate between present with Mia and past with from Josie, a student that was involved with Mia's husband. This I really liked. I think it added to the story and told things from Josie's point of view to keep the reader kind of ahead of what Mia was finding out.

The entire story was filled with mystery and the need to now. It was a page turner and I really enjoyed everything about it. There were a few things I think could have been explained better in the end and for that, I gave it a four rating instead of a five, but really it was really really good.

Very intense psychological thriller. I loved it.
