Wee Reads: Love Monster and the Last Chocolate by Rachel Bright

Ever since Finn was born, and even before then, we would read to him. We wanted to show him reading from an early age. Now he loves us to read the same books, over, and over, and over. But it is the sweetest thing when he likes to pick out a book and climb into our laps.

What Finn Reads...

Love Monster and the Last Chocolate (Love Monster, #3)Love Monster and The Last Chocolate by Rachel Bright

A delicious new story about Love Monster, the only monster in Cutesville, from phenomenal, award-winning picture book talent Rachel Bright!

When Love Monster finds a mystery box of chocolates at his door, he can’t believe his luck. But he’s soon thrown into a whirlwind of turmoil. Should he keep the chocolates for himself? Or risk the perils of sharing his good fortune with his friends?
This super-funny-rumbly-tummy-sherbert-explosion of a story shows that when faced with the selection box of life, following your heart will bring you the best treats of all.

What Finn Thinks...

Do you like this book?
Yeah! Because the monster wanted to share the chocolate for his friends. But his friends shared the last piece of chocolate instead!

What's your favorite part of the book?
I love the monster and his friends. They are like my friends. I like that he shares. I love the strawberry chocolate. But it's not nice to keep chocolate, you have to share. I don't like that the chocolate is an eraser, I wanted real candy.

What do you think of the cover?
I like the monster! And he sticks his tongue out!

Do you want me to read it again?
Yeah, I just like it five.

What Momma Thinks...
We have been reading the first Love Monster book to Finn since he was really little. So, of course, this was something we just had to read to him. It's a great book that teaches about friendship and about sharing. The artwork and the colors are, of course, beautiful and adorable. This book came with a chocolate eraser (That is supposed to smell like chocolate, but doesn't, by the way) And Finn was very upset it wasn't real chocolate. Overall it's an adorable book with a great lesson. Some of our favorite pages:

Rachel is a writer of words, drawer of pictures and champion of silver linings. She exhibits widely, writes tirelessly and frequently creates slightly unhinged characters.

Her written work includes children’s stories and poems, clever advertising copy and lots of other stuff besides. Her illustrative work is a smorgasboard of giant, hand-printed poems, mind-bogglingly detailed gouache illustrations and a cacophony of quirky prints and etchings.
She explores the lovliness of words and the magic of pictures, revelling in a world of jam-eating miniature bears and other made-up animals.
Her work aims to capture a free way of thinking - one which makes you feel anything is possible, a feeling all too easily lost with the end of childhood. When we’re all grown-up, sometimes we just need a little nudge to remember it’s been there all along.
