What do the Greek gods do when they're bored? Because they're always bored, so humans are the perfect players in their games.

Aphrodite owns love; she hasn't lost a competition on her turf in over three millennia. Apollo is on a mission to win. He's counting on it to finally get the one woman he's never been able to have. The two gods will choose their human players, and if Aphrodite can't get them together before the clock runs out, Apollo will get his way. And Aphrodite couldn't have that.

Lex and Dean are perfect for each other, they just don't know it yet. Dean is a perpetual bachelor, and a brooding, beautiful rock star. Lex is always with a man, but she'll never fully give herself up. Aphrodite has her work cut out for her, but if she can't make it work, no one can.

The gods have their own drama. Apollo killed Aphrodite's mortal love - they've got beef that's been dragging on for thousands of years. Ares, the douchebag, is forever trying to pick a fight, and trying to get Aphrodite into bed. And Persephone, Aphrodite's best friend, is the one person who Aphrodite shares everything with.

This book caught my attention right away. Love the cover, love the unique title, and the synopsis sounded fresh and new. I love mythology books, and this one was very entertaining. I have been attempting more adult books lately and this one was a good one to start with. A little more graphic than I am used to but I was able to deal. The story was fast paced and passionate and that I did like.

The gods like to play games, they are bored, they compete with each other to basically win favors. Apollo has been after a favor win from Aphrodite for a very long time and now, here is his chance. No one likes to play games of love with Aphrodite because well she always wins! (duh) Apollo believes he has this one covered with the guy he picks... Dean, a real player scared to get close to any woman. Aphrodite's pick... a woman, Lex, who knows she is missing something but also has some deep issues of abandonment. Its an all out war... well at least a very intense competition between the gods with the hearts of humans at stake.

What I liked about the book... the book switches back and forth between the gods and the humans. So the I as the reader was able to keep track of the gods lives... present and past... and the humans life. It kept things very interesting. I really liked the gods and their way of messing wih the humans lives for entertainment. It may seem a little cruel but they did have rules to protect the humans. I also liked reading about the gods past on where all the issues between the gods started. It was a history class in mythology which I always love. The human part of the stories is your classic contemporary romance novel. It was like two in one.

The story was very interesting, the writing was just right to tell the story and make it fast, short, and fun, without getting me lost. That is a feat of its own trust me. Sometimes short and fast novels end up leaving so very important details or explanations out or they are so rushed, I end up confused. This book was done very well and I didn't feel I was missing anything.

The characters were fun. I really really liked the gods. They were just so funny and very very entertaining. I think Persephone was my favorite. I really didn't dislike any of them. They all had their strengths and weaknesses as it is told in mythology. The humans were great too. Lex was a good character, but I Dean stole the show for me. He was the classic bad boy that just needed a little love in his life. Both the gods and the humans had a little help from friends, so I was able to greet and meet many wondeful characters.

What really had me going in this story, I wanted Aphrodite to win because I wanted Dean and Lex to have what they needed to happen, but I really wanted Apollo to win because his story just broke my heart. So it was a tug a war with my hear the whole way through.

The book did have an ending and I am glad it didn't leave me hanging. It is a series, and I am happy to see that. I will for sure be checking out more.

It was a great read, not my typical but I did enjoy it.

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom; she has three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife; even though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f, ends with k, and there a uc in there. Just saying. From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's sleeping, cleaning, or designing graphics. But let's be honest, she's mostly writing.
