Goodreads Summary:
Once upon a time there was a girl who was special.
This is not her story.
Unless you count the part where I killed her.
Sixteen-year-old Alison has been sectioned in a mental institute for teens, having murdered the most perfect and popular girl at school. But the case is a mystery: nobody has been found, and Alison’s condition is proving difficult to diagnose. Alison herself can’t explain what happened: one minute she was fighting with Tori—the next she disintegrated. Into nothing. But that’s impossible. Right?
Review:
I picked up this book not knowing what it was really about. The synopsis is a little vague and I thought a mystery how fun. So more than just a mystery. It’s almost like 3 stories in one. It was a good read.
Allison wakes up in a hospital and her last memory is of her killing a girl in her school. The thing is she is not sure how she killed her, they were fighting than the girl was gone, disintegrated. After waking up she is moved to a mental hospital where she is studied and where she meets many interesting people. People who are crazy, people who think she is crazy, and people who might just believe her. Alison is desperate to find out what happened that night.
The story is a mystery about the girl who disintegrated but also a mystery about Allison and certain abilities she has within her senses. This was very interesting to me. Probably the most interesting of the story. Alison can taste letters, hear colors, and see feelings. Strange but so amazing.
Alison’s character was well developed but she did get one my nerves a bit. I am sure that I would be confused, untrusting, and whiny if I had been in the same circumstance, but I really wanted her to handle herself just a little better. She really is the only character we really get to know. Towards the end of the book, I began to like her a bit more and I am interested in seeing where her story takes her.
I think the story moved slow in parts for me, it was hard for me to stay connected at first, but the end of the book I was hooked. It’s very wild story and takes some pretty hard turns. I will be reading the next installment.
Rating:
The story line sounds promising. I am currently struggling with slow starts, so I will probably pass on this one for now. Thank you for your detailed review.
