Review:
I love fairytale retellings, especially when they are fresh and new. Cinder is an amazing retelling that takes places in a dark world.
The world the author created for this story is amazing, dark, and beautiful. It’s set in the future, post apocalyptic where everything is created with technology. The story is full of mystery and romance. I was pulled in deep from the beginning.
Cinder is strong character; independent, sarcastic, and only a small percentage human. She lives with her stepmother and two stepsisters. Her stepmother uses and abuses her and her oldest stepsister hates her. She is close to the younger stepsister who ends up sick with a deadly disease with no known clue. Cinder will do whatever she needs to help find a cure for her little sister. Her sister is the only human that she cares for. That is until she meets Prince Kai.
The romance between Cinder and Prince Kai is not love at first sight. This is something I really enjoyed about this book. It was fun to watch the romance bloom. So many young adult books these days have “love at first sight”, I know teens are pretty dramatic about everything they do, but as an adult I am well aware “love at first sight” is very very very rare, if it exists at all.
Prince Kai was great for me. He is smart and gentle. He loves and admires beyond boundaries. He is not above the common people and cares deeply for his father and his kingdom.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next installment. A little impatiently I must say, since this book ended with a “no that’s not it, is it?” moment.
